Malta wreck diving expedition with Jack Ingle Technical Diving

After another excellent expedition in 2009 Jack Ingle is planning even more trips to Malta in 2010

The diving is stunning with excellent visibility and fabulous wrecks. The dives are all around the 40 to 70 metre range with some excellent WW1 and WW2 wrecks.

The actual dives planned will be arranged around the group of divers and will be dependent on their wishes, qualifications and experience. Please discuss this with Jack Ingle. All divers must be a minimum of Dive Leader, Dive master or equivalent. Some of the sites available are listed below but there are many more.
Le Polynesienne
This wreck was a French liner. Length 156 metres powered by a steam engine from 12 coal boilers giving her a cruising speed of 17 knots. She was hit by a torpedo from a German U boat in 1918 and lays in 60 metres of water. This is a stunning wreck and one you will want to visit more than once.
HMS Stubborn
This is a British Submarine P238 (S class), built in 1942 and is 66 metres long, she is sitting in 56 metres of water at a 10 degree list. Her armaments were 7 torpedo tubes, a 3 inch gun on the fore deck and one 20mm machine gun behind the conning tower. She carried a crew of 44 men and was scuttled at the end of the war.
HMS Southwold
This is a Hunt Class Destroyer and is 86 metres in length. The Southwold was escorting other vessels when she struck a mine (1942), was taking in tow to Malta but sank before making the safe haven. She sits in 70 metres on her starboard side. She has two sections and needs more than one dive to visit both Bow and Stern
Schnell Boat
German MTB boat, intact wreck, 2WW, torpedoes still in tubes, great dive, 70 metres
Other sites
This area is littered with many wrecks, mainly from the WW2 era, some of these include, Hellespont, HMS St Angelo, Imperial Eagle, HM Drifter Eddy, El Faroud and many more.

Analox presents to Submarine Escape Equipment panel

Analox Sensor Technology has returned from the NATO Submarine Escape Equipment Panel Meeting (SEE) with interest in its products and services from Navies from across the world.

Vicky Brown, Sales and Marketing Director � Military Division for Analox, was invited to present to the panel a brief update on Analox�s Military Systems Division and the products currently being produced and developed. Following the event, Analox is now following up a number of leads and hopes to be able to announce resulting new contracts within the year.

Analox accepted the invitation to attend the annual panel meeting, which was held this year in Gosport, Hampshire, at the Submarine Escape Training Tank on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The panel aims to give NATO and partner nations the opportunity to discuss trials, new products and services, and to share information on ongoing issues within the Submarine Escape and Rescue (SMER) community.

Vicky said: �Analox continuously puts extensive work into its products to ensure that they address the issues faced in Submarine Escape and Rescue. By addressing and attending the SEE panel, we can share our expertise after many years� work in this field. We also have the opportunity to establish any issues, or changes in needs so that Analox can continue to develop the products required by the market.�

Analox are named as a finalist for North East Business Awards

Analox Sensor Technology has been named as a sub-regional finalist in the Export Award category of the North East Business Awards 2009.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox, said: �We are delighted to be recognised by the judges of the awards. Analox has created markets for its products across the globe, and is continuously working to develop its links into foreign markets and maximise the export potential for its products.�

The sub-regional award winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner at the Olympia Building, Teesside University on Thursday, March 25 2010. Should Analox win the award, it will go forward to the Regional Final on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, in Sedgefield.

The criteria of interest to the judges of the Export Award included the level of exports in relation to the size of the company, and the barriers that have had to be overcome.

Training begins for an iconic North East run

Two sales executives from Analox Sensor Technology have committed themselves to nine months of pounding the roads in training for the Bupa Great North Run.

Simon Lunt and Paul Scott have confirmed their places to run in the most iconic half-marathon run. The event, which takes place on Sunday, September 19, 2010, will see 54,000 runners tread a route from Newcastle, across the Tyne Bridge into Gateshead and on through South Tyneside to its finish in South Shields.

Through their efforts Simon and Paul are raising funds for Scope, the cerebral palsy charity. Scope invests its funds and time in ensuring a better and fairer life for people with cerebral palsy.

Simon said: �The biggest incentive is to raise funds for a charity which is very dear to me and my family, but there is another reason too. I�ve come to the conclusion I�m more unfit than I�ve ever been in my life, so I�m kitted out with fancy trainers and special padded socks and the training is off to a very positive start. We�ll keep you updated as the Great North Run gets nearer and our training intensifies.�

Analox earns Tick IT certification

Analox Sensor Technology has added Tick IT certification to the ISO certification is has held for 13 years.

Analox was recently awarded Tick IT certification, a quality management standard covering the development, supply and maintenance of software. It has also been recertified to the latest version of ISO 9001:2008, the internationally-recognised standard for quality management systems. It is now permitted to use both the Tick IT and ISO logos on its literature and website.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox Sensor Technology, said: �Now business depends on computerised systems which in turn depend on software for the effectiveness and efficiency. Any problem with software, from late delivery to malfunction, can affect a company�s credibility as well as costing it dearly.

Speaking about 2010 Mark said �We have ambitious targets to double the company�s turnover from �6 million to �12 million by 2014, and having exceeded our targets in 2009 we are optimistic that we can continue in a similar vein in the coming year. We have restructured our sales team and launched a number of new products in the last year, and we feel stable and confident as a company, despite the current economic crisis.

Early in 2009, Analox restructured its sales operation into two focused divisions. Vicky Brown took responsibility for the Military Sales Division which aims to increase its turnover five-fold in the coming years. Rob Cornish joined the company to lead the commercial division, focusing on hospitality, industry, commercial diving and sport diving.

Analox reported a number of good news stories during the year. In May, it announced that it had won the contract to deliver 72 Sub MKIIP emergency analysers to the UK Navy, and delivered the first two in July. It also took an order from the US Navy for a further 40 such analysers.

In the summer it launched the new Aspida designed for the hospitality industry. Replacing the �Buddy� analyser, the Aspida detects both CO2 and O2 levels, and is the first personal alarm to incorporate a �man down� alarm.

This product, alongside the Analox 50, was exhibited at Drinktec 09 in Munich in September.

In October, Analox exhibited at the NEC Dive Show where it hosted a competition to find the most inspiring diving photos. Analox would also like to congratulate the male members of staff who chose to support the Movember appeal for men�s health charities by growing moustaches throughout November, and raising more then �1,000 for the appeal.

Corporate Christmas gifts go to charities

Two of its clients have inspired a Stokesley firm to replace Christmas gifts with charity donations to the Help for Heroes campaign and Multiple Sclerosis National Therapy Centres.

Analox Sensor Technology has replaced its long shopping list of corporate Christmas gifts with a donation to each appeal.

Analox has chosen the charities to reflect two fields in which its gas sensors are utilised. Not only has it worked for many years with military clients providing gas sensors used by divers and in distressed submarines, but its sensors also play a vital part in the delivery of oxygen treatment for patients with Multiple Sclerosis.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox Sensor Technology, said: �We�re really pleased that we�re in the position to make substantial donations to both charities this Christmas. We hope that these gifts will make a genuine difference to people�s lives, both those living with Multiple Sclerosis as well as the servicemen and women who have returned injured from Iraq and Afghanistan.�

Help for Heroes was launched in 2007 to help wounded members of the armed forces returning from the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. It has to date allocated more than �23.5 million for projects including the UK�s first Army Recovery Centre which opened in summer 2009.

Multiple Sclerosis National Therapy Centres provide direct support and services for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. The centres are spread across the UK and Ireland and offer high quality therapeutic and other services to those with Multiple Sclerosis and their carers.

CO Clear replaces 3D Carbon Monoxide alarm

Analox Sensor Technology has announced that it is ceasing manufacture of the Analox 3D Carbon Monoxide alarm, and replacing it with a newer model which offers detection of carbon monoxide around the clock.

From 1 January, 2010, the Analox CO Clear Carbon Monoxide alarm will be the available carbon monoxide (CO) alarm. This product offers customers a number of benefits. It is easier to manufacture, which means that Analox can supply the product to customers more quickly. Also, as the Analox 3D Carbon Monoxide alarm was becoming more expensive to manufacture, by supplying the Analox CO Clear Carbon Monoxide alarm instead, Analox does not need to increase prices.

The CO Clear Carbon Monoxide alarm is designed for use in factory airline compressor outlets, factory airline point of use monitoring and for fire department compressor and cylinder charging stations.

Analox backs offshore safety at IMCA annual seminar

Analox Sensor Technology took the opportunity to promote offshore safety at the Integrated Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) Annual Seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November 2009.

The seminar, entitled International Marine Operations in Challenging times, brought together members and industry colleagues from around the world. Analox was able to meet with new contacts as well as established distributors that supply its products to commercial divers, offshore industries and submarine manufacturers.

Global interest at DEMA 2009

Analox Sensor Technology has returned from the only international trade-only event for the diving industry with more than 25 new dealers signed, and interest from countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Ukraine, Qatar, Dubai and Russia.

Analox attended The Power of DEMA, a four day exhibition in Orlando, Florida, last month.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox Sensor Technology, said: �The benefits of exhibiting at DEMA are many - not least the opportunity to meet face-to-face with thousands of the world�s most highly qualified diving professionals in one place. Many in the industry have faced uncertainty this year, and, by appearing at DEMA, it was the ideal opportunity to reinforce our reputation as a stable industry supplier.

�We are optimistic that with sales confirmed at the show, and those which we expect to finalise now we�ve returned, more than 95% of the interest shown at the stand has been converted.

�Equally nice is the fact that many people passing the stand took the time to tell us how much they rate the Analox equipment they regularly use.�

Great Escapes and Diving Eccentrics dive lectures

Trevor Norton - Brave, Brilliant and Balmy'
Trevor Norton will be regaling tails of the extraordinary antics of some of the more eccentric people who have contributed to underwater research.

At school Trevor Norton specialized in failing exams, until he saw Hans and Lotte Hass �Diving to Adventure� on TV. Suddenly he began to pass exams and, to the disbelief of his teachers, became a professor of marine biology. He first went diving in 1953 and later used SCUBA extensively in his ecological research. He has written over 160 scientific articles and recently his popular literary books have earned him the accolade �Bill Bryson under water�. A play �inspired�
by his first book, /Stars Beneath the Sea/, ran at the Edinburgh Festival prior to a nationwide tour. Trevor lives on the Isle of Man overlooking the sea that he has underlooked for most of his working life.

Monty Halls - 'Great Escapes'
For the last two years Monty has been seeking out the Great Escapes - whether that be living the simple life on the west coast of Scotland, traveling round South Africa following the greatest of all sporting tours (whilst experiencing the very best shark dives around the coast), or working as a wildlife ranger in the Outer Hebrides. The latter project will be the subject of his next BBC2 series coming out this Spring. A hairy November in Stokesley

Six men in Stokesley have spent November becoming increasingly hairy � all in the name of charity.

Six male employees at Analox Sensor Technology Ltd are participating in �Movember�, the annual month-long moustache-growing charity event which raises funds for, and awareness of, men�s health issues, and primarily prostate cancer.

Movember at Analox is raising a few eyebrows too as the seventies style facial designs have taken shape. The team is hoping their efforts will raise in excess of �1,000 for charity, and they have already received donations from colleagues, as well as a company donation.

Chris Allen, sporting his new moustache, said: �This is the first time any of us has experienced a hairy top lip and our line up of moustaches is certainly getting us noticed � some impressive trucker-style �taches are developing.

�We�re all really pleased not only to be raising lots of money with our efforts, but also to be able to raise awareness of the annual Movember charity appeal. My grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer, so I�m glad I have an opportunity to raise some money and awareness too.

�November may well be Movember here in Stokesley again next year.�

New head of Commercial sales joins restructured Analox

Analox Sensor Technology has appointed a new Head of Commercial Sales as part of a restructuring aimed at helping it meet ambitious targets.

Analox�s sales operation has been restructured into two targeted divisions. As Head of Commercial Sales, Rob Cornish has joined Analox and will be responsible for the company�s continued growth in the hospitality, industrial and diving sectors. Meanwhile Vicky Brown is continuing to develop the Military Sales Division. Analox has plans for considerable growth in the next five years, aiming to double its turnover to �12m per annum.

Rob, 37, has previously worked in sales management in the telecommunications and software sectors, including roles with Phones 4 U and Trustmarque Solutions. He said: �Analox has clear but ambitious aims, and I am enjoying working with a team committed to these plans. We have had a number of successes in recent months, and are confident that the right team is in place to continue this pattern in 2010 and beyond.�

Since Rob joined Analox earlier in 2009, the Commercial Sales Division has celebrated a number of deals. Rob, who speaks fluent Italian, was involved in winning a �1/2 million order from a large European distributor. Also, Analox has recently signed an exclusive distribution deal for Austria with The Linde Group.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox Sensor Technology, said: �Despite the current climate, Analox is fairing extremely well, and continues to report growth across all sectors. That is due in no small part to the excellent team of people we have. We are always interested in bringing in the right people who can drive the company in the right direction. Picture of elusive Dugong wins photography competition

A dramatic photograph into the eye of an infrequently-seen dugong has won a diving photography competition launched by Analox Sensor Technology.

The photograph was taken by diver Dave Johnson in September 2009 at Marsa Mubarak, a protected bay in the Marsa Alam region of Egypt on the Red Sea. His dive took him beneath the elusive marine mammal, giving him the opportunity to shoot the animal as it came up for air with the sun glinting on the surface of the water above him.

Visitors to the NEC Dive Show were asked to enter their sport diving photographs into a competition to find the most awe-inspiring image. Dave has won a Fuji Finepix F200 EXR, a new camera designed for underwater photography up to a depth of 40 metres. The winning photograph will now front a gallery of diving photos on the Analox website. He is also about to launch his own website of photographs taken during his dives.

Michelle Morley, marketing manager for Analox Sensor Technology, said: �When we launched the competition we had no idea of the caliber of the entries we would receive. It�s obvious that Dave, and many other divers, have a passion for the underwater scenery, and share their experiences with others through their amazing photography. Dave�s photograph stood out, but then you don�t need me to tell you that � all you need to do is see it.�

Dave, 52, lives with his wife Mary in Ramsey, near Peterborough. Having spent 30 years in the Royal Air Force, he now works for BAE Systems as a business analyst. He has dived since young, but rediscovered his love when his wife learned to dive in 2005. They now dive in both the UK and overseas, and aim to visit the Red Sea twice each year where they have both become increasingly interested in the dive photography as much as the diving.

Dave commented: �I probably take up to 4,000 underwater photographs each year � and maybe 40 of them are worth sharing. The winning photograph was exceptionally exciting as the infamous Marsa Alam Dugongs are not often seen. This one may well not have reappeared for a couple of months. Luckily I was in the right place at the right time, and got this fabulous shot.

�My wife and I plan to broaden our diving range by taking a Nitrox course in the near future, so we will soon be using Analox equipment when we dive. I�d like to thank Analox for the new underwater camera. It will no doubt be well used, and hopefully give me more fantastic photographs which I can add to my website.�

Analox is launching a video diary room at the exhibitions, inviting divers to step infront of the camera and share whatever�s on their mind. Analox at Drinktec 2009

Analox has returned from Drinktec 09, the world fair for beverage and liquid food technology, with more than 60 strong sales leads from across the world.

Analox exhibited two of its products at the Munich event; the Analox 50, a mains-powered CO2 alarm which can be wall-mounted in a cellar, and the new Aspida, a personal dual gas analyser which incorporates, amongst other features, a �man down� alarm.

Following the six day exhibition, Analox has begun negotiations for distribution of its products in China, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Italy and the Philippines. It also has interest from a South African company and has quoted a Mongolian company for eight units, including three Aspida analysers. A further enquiry from Global Fountain in Italy could lead to an order for A50 units. In addition, it has made contacts enabling it to trial the new Aspida in the UK.

Analox attend a bespoke course at the Underwater Centre.

On 22nd & 23rd of September 10 members of Analox staff attended a bespoke course at The Underwater Centre in Fort William, Scotland. The course comprised of classroom talks including gas toxicity, commercial diving techniques, safety issues and air diving training.

Time was also spent at the onshore pool learning about air diver training and an afternoon on the Talon which is a purpose built open bell, saturation diver training barge where Analox staff learned about the challenges for both Life Support Staff and the divers themselves.

Simon Lunt, Key Account Manager at Analox for the Commercial Diving Industry was delighted with the course. "The course was lead very professionally by an experienced LSS and instructor and was a fantastic learning opportunity for our design, sales and operational staff which will help us with future developments and customer service through a better understanding of the many aspects of commercial diving."

WaterProof is delighted to announce the first Pre-DEMA Annual Golf Day and you�re invited!

Analox loan a CO2 Buddy to the US Geological Survey team

Analox recently loaned a CO2 Buddy to the US Geological Team. John Pallister visited Saudi Arabia and worked with Khalid Kadi (Saudi Geological Survey Senior Geologist) monitoring CO2 in and around volcano's.

John stated 'We used the Buddy in the field successfully, although no CO2 was detected. The seismic swarm is continuing although at reduced levels, so we suspect that any CO2 emissions were diffused and at levels undetectable given surface conditions (windy, desert)'

RIDE FOR HEROES (R4H)

Fourteen military personnel from Prince William of Gloucester Barracks,(The home of the RLC TA) are undertaking a round the coast of Britain motorbike ride. The exercise aim's to raise awareness and fund-raise in support of the �Help for Heroes� initiative, the role of the TA, in particular the RLC TA, and the TA100 centenary. In addition, the exercise will provide a platform for the promotion of the RLC TA within its recruiting initiative, whilst developing
and maintaining the TA�s traditional links with society and local communities.

The team (of which four will be riding each day) will complete a 4200 miles ride around the coast of Britain, on British Army issued Harley Davidson motorcycles, beginning at PWoG Barracks, Grantham on 6 Jun 08 and ending at the Lincoln Show to celebrate TA100 on the 19 Jun 08. There will be 12 scheduled
overnight stops, using military establishments from all the services, linked by a number of day-time fund-raising and recruiting events, supported by RLC TA Regiments, en-route.

Maj Bill Scott, the Officer in charge of the team said;
�the event is not for the faint hearted and will be a test of everyone�s stamina, endurance and teamwork. It is hoped the event will raise awareness of the essential support provided by the TA on operations, while marking its centenary. In addition raising fund will take place for those members of the Armed forces injured in the line of duty, on behalf of the 'Help for Heroes' initiative.

Analox Sales department changes

In our drive to fulfill our vision of being the first choice for atmosphere monitoring in hostile environments, and our ambitions for significant growth, we have taken the decision to split the Analox sales team into 2 highly focused divisions.

With immediate effect, Vicky Brown will be heading up the Military Sales Division, and Rob Cornish, a new addition to the Analox Management Team will be heading up the Commercial Sales Division.

Michelle Morley is moving into her new role as Marketing Manger, and the sales team is being strengthened further with the addition of Paul Scott, who joined us on the 1st June, as Key Account Manager for the Hospitality & Cryogenic markets.

British Forces Foundation - Lap of Honour project

Analox are delighted to be a proud sponsor of the British Forces Foundations 'Lap of Honour' project.

The British Forces Foundation launched its Lap of Honour project in June 2008. Fronted by BFF Trustee Katherine Jenkins, the project marks the charity�s 10th anniversary year.

The new vehicle has been engaged in a year-long adventure around the country getting 50 British icons to autograph one car, and 100 companies to lend their support.

Decompression explained

Technical diving instructor Mark Powell has recently published a new book which aims to explain decompression in plain English.

The book is aimed to be an overview of decompression theory, starting with the very basics such as the history and principles of decompression. It then moves through the practical applications of decompression for Air and Nitrox diving as well as the implications for decompression sickness. It then goes on to cover deep stops and bubble models. Finally, for those interested it, covers the implications of Trimix on decompression and some of the alternative decompression models available today.

It is intended for any diver who is interested in what happens when they go underwater. As ALL dives are decompression dives then it is intended for the recreational diver as much as the technical diver. In particular any recreational Dive Master or Instructor should be aware of many of the ideas in this book.

This is a truly remarkable book which covers all the various theories of decompression and ascents for divers in a most readable and understanding manner. Christmas Close Down

With Christmas fast approaching please find details, below, on Analox�s Christmas shutdown period, and last shipping dates for pre Christmas deliveries:

Analox will close on Wednesday 24th December and will re-open on Friday 2nd January 2009.

If you require any products prior to Analox closing, the last shipment date for the UK Office will be Friday 19th December. The last shipment date for the US office is Monday 22nd December.

Current lead times for most Analox products are 4-5 weeks with the exception of Analox O2EII�s, ATA�s, Calibration Gas and replacement Oxygen sensors.

HSE - Update of 'Divers Breathing Air Standard'

The HSE has recently updated their information sheet titled : 'Divers breathing air standard and frequency of examination and tests' sheet No9, Rev1.

Within the section 'Standard for divers breathing air' the HSE recommend that the CO content shall not exceed 3ppm. In order to adhere to these recommendations Analox have altered the alarm set point on all UK powered CO Clear alarms from 5ppm to 3ppm.

The HSE also recommends additional methods of assuring air quality. Altough testing of a compressor is required at least every 3 months, the HSE notes that high levels of CO would not necessarily be identified during periodic sampling. They recommend that to minimise the hazards of CO a catalyst or online monitor should be considered.

The Analox CO Clear has been specifically designed for use with compressors. This fixed alarm offers audible and visual alarm warnings to rising levels of CO.

International Association of Oil & Gas Producers

In June 2008, the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers issued a report on Recommended Diving Practices (Report No 411).

In appendix 8, under equipment, they recommend that the SDC needs to contain equipment which can measure hydrocarbon contaminants and be of an equivalent specification to the Analox Hypergas MKII

The Analox Mini O2DII and Mini O2 have had a little make over this month and will now be known as the Analox O2 Portable.

The Analox O2 Portable will now offers users an extended sensor warranty and the flexibility of two different flow adaptors being supplied as standard.

HWSAC Raffle Winner

Giulia's Australian Adventure

We received our first update of Giulia's grand Australian Adventure this week, and looking at the picture it is slightly warmer than Stokesley!

Giulia took the Indian Pacific to visit Adelaide with the journey taking 2 days to complete. She is currently in Adelaide before she heads off to Melbourne in the search for some sun!

LIDS 2008

Dive Show

The dive season will be starting next month with Analox attending the LIDS dive show in London on the 8th & 9th March and then Beneath The Sea in New Jersey on 28-30 March.

We will be demonstrating the O2EII Nitrox analyser, the ATA Trimix analyser and the CO Clear Carbon Monoxide Alarm. All units along with their spares and accessories will be available to buy.

Goodbye Giulia

Giulia Alzona will be leaving Analox on Friday 7th December.

Giulia has been working in the Sales and Marketing team looking after sales of Sport Diving and Hospitality analysers into Southern Europe and South America.

Australia has proved too big of a temptation and Giulia plans to go traveling in 2008. Look out for her Australian updates on the blog!

New Building

Dive 2007

We had a great time at the NEC Dive Show, even though we all arrived home with achy legs and feet.

The show seemed quieter this year for visitors, but I suppose a little Football and Rugby match didn't help!

We still managed to demo the O2EII Nitrox analyser and the ATA Trimix analyser to willing crowds.

TUV TRSK313 standard replaced

The Analox 50 Carbon Dioxide analyser is certified by the TUV to TRSK313 standard. The TRSK313 standard has now been replaced by the new DIN standard.

NFPA revises compressor requirements

NFPA have recently issued their draft edition of NFPA 1989 F2007 ROP. In this revision, section 7.2.1 details that they will require all compressors used for compressed breathing air (at 1ATM) to install a Carbon Monoxide alarm within their system. Reduce, re-use, recycle

If you need to recycle any of our gas sensors, alarms or analysers, you can now easily find a local place to do so by going to the recycle-more website. We strongly support the initiative to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic waste which up until now was simply dumped in landfill sites.

New HQ to be completed ahead of schedule

Our new HQ is now due for completion at the end of August which is a staggering 2 months ahead of schedule

As you can see from the updated picture, the actual building is now complete with windows currently been fitted. Internally, work is continuing to finish production work stations where all your gas sensors and analysers are made. Once the builders vacate the inside of our new HQ we will be posting more pictures.

Details on our new address will be uploaded onto our website in July so keep looking.

Dave shots it to them!

Dave Dowson usually spends his time packing and dispatching our gas sensors and analysers around the world. This year he is also taking part in the Highlands Games (http://www.albagames.co.uk/).
This weekend he was impressing the crowds at the 72nd Oldmeldrum event (http://www.oldmeldrum.org.uk/sports/ ), where he won the shot put event and came 4th overall.

We will keep you posted on Dave's progress throughout the Highland Games.

The birds are back in town

The house martins which nested on the alarm box outside our front door last year have come back. A new nest has been built, and the happy couple are (we think) keeping some eggs warm.

Its nice to see and hear them - makes a welcome change from the noise of gas alarms being tested. Hopefully we'll get some pictures of the young ones when they come along.

Analox make number one on Local Cooling

Installing Local Cooling on our desktop PCs throughout the company is saving us around 40KWh per week in electricity and has resulted in us being top of the table for companies registered with the site! In my own sad little way I'm quite proud...

Our new HQ is coming along nicely

If you have been looking on our website news page recently you may have seen the entry when we started work on our new offices (see 'Work starts on new HQ', Oct 2006). The highly insulating cladding has just been put on most of the building (see pic) and we have just laid 14km of under floor heating pipes.

As we're trying to reduce our carbon footprint and make the new building as environmentally friendly as possible, we are using an under ground heat pump to extract warmth from the earth to heat the building and reduce power consumption.
Hopefully we'll be moved in by November, but in the mean time we'll be putting regular updates in this blog.

Energy efficiency

We are currently installing Local Cooling on all the desktop and laptop PCs in Analox, in an effort improve our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. Hopefully, (time allowing) it will be on them all within a week. You can check it out by downloading it from the link above. Its pretty cool - even tells you how many trees you've saved!

Abseiling from the world famous Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge for charity

On Sunday 25th March I successfully abseiled 160ft straight down from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, and raised �230 for Mencap. It was definitely something I'd do again - the only hard part was stepping off the edge. Oh, and the climb up...
